“Agora Nexus: A Harmonious Flow of Civic Life,” the project emphasizes horizontal circulation at the ground level to optimize pedestrian flow and strengthen connections between key landmarks, including City Hill, UNSW, Commonwealth Park, and future developments such as a proposed light rail. The modern agora is defined by monumental columns and expansive shaded structures, fostering an inviting, flexible environment for public gatherings and civic interaction. Drawing on classical design principles, the agora encourages social engagement, while the open layout with communal seating enhances inclusivity and unimpeded circulation.

In the facade design, the principles inspired by Kengo Kuma’s approach have been applied, emphasizing the sensory experience and materiality of timber. Timber has been utilized in layered forms, allowing light to filter through and creating a dynamic interplay of shadows. This treatment not only enhances the tactile warmth and connection to the human scale but also helps achieve a sense of lightness and openness in the overall structure. By adopting an “anti-monumental” approach, the design minimizes its visual weight while fostering a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment.
